Dr. Donald A. Balun

Psychiatrist

Dr. Balun earned his Medical Degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York. After receiving his Medical Degree, he completed his internship at Albany Medical College Hospital. He then completed his residency at Albany Medical College Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. Following his residency, he completed a two-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

 

Dr. Balun enlisted in the United States Army and was on active duty from 2000 to 2008 serving as an Army Psychiatrist. In 2002 he was transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where he worked as Staff Psychiatrist at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital. He was promoted to Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry.

 

He was deployed to the Middle East during the Iraq War where he served as Chief of Mental Health for the 10th Combat Support Hospital in Kuwait and the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq managing the only inpatient psychiatric unit in Iraq, as well as outpatient services for the hospital, services for coalition forces and Iraqi detainees.

 

Upon returning stateside in 2003, Dr. Balun served as Staff Psychiatrist and Chief of Psychiatry at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, providing mental health services to eligible service members, their families and retirees, as well as emergency services for the ER Department. He was promoted Chief of Behavioral Medicine.

 

After leaving the military in 2008, Dr. Balun relocated to Springfield, Missouri where worked as Staff Psychiatrist at Mercy Hospital. He is ECT certified and served as ECT Director while at Mercy Hospital. In 2018, Dr. Balun moved to Severance, Colorado to work as Staff Psychiatrist and Assistant Medical Director at Clear View Behavioral Health inpatient mental health facility. In December of that year, he was named Medical Director at Clear View Behavioral Health.
